ah, what a year. A year full of projects, sewing stuff, starting stuff, not always finishing stuff but mostly: learning a lot.

It was ALSO a year where I realized even though I'd like to share my endevours and progress I am not particularly (to put it mildly) good at posting content...

So here I am with a backlog filled with content begging to be showed off. And an empty account. Where to start? Well.. by making #newyearsresolutions for #2025 and, more specifically, #sewingchallenge2025

Slowly I will work my way back to show all the progress I've made and all the lovely stuff I've managed to create. Left and right I'll touch upon other topics such as #dyeingfabric, #upcycling and #thrifting, or even #leatherworks and #silverworks.

For now only resolution #5 is one that can be ticked off: dingesje.com is (albeit under construction) live-ish!

That leaves me to say: have a wonderful year!

What's in a #lbd? En wat maakt hem zo bijzonder? In de 1920s zorgde de little black dress van Chanel voor een omslag: zwart was tot dan toe vooral een rouwkleur voor de rijken, en het modebeeld voor vrouwen (en mannen!) bepaalde dat het lichaam zich aan moest passen aan de kleding (hallo korsetten!).

De LBD werd het boegbeeld dat het anders kon. Een simpele jurk waarbij de drager de vorm bepaald in plaats van andersom. Waarbij de sieraden de gelegenheid aanduiden omdat de jurk zelf áltijd kan. Een kledingstuk waarbij de drager centraal staat. Een evergreen-in-black.

En dát is voor mij het uitgangspunt van deze jurk geweest. Met de parelketting als knipoog naar de moeder aller Little Black Dresses. Een simpele jurk die zich vormt naar jou in plaats van andersom (maar speels de lijnen verwermt van de korset die de jurk juist de deur uit gooide!) in hetzelfde materiaal als de allereerste van Chanel: zijde!

En deze is speciaal gemaakt ter ere van de Bernina wedstrijd en Op de valreep (23:59 😅) ingediend.

🪡 What a way to practice straight stitching 😅

For an upcoming project (this will be a Little Black Dress.. yes.. really) I decided to make it even more fun besides using non-black fabric..

..what's got to be the most horrible material to sew? Probably silk. And what did I find and desperately wanted to use? Well.. lots and lots of slippery silk leftovers from the production of silk clothes. Best way to reduce waste!

Consider this part 1 of probably many of my #abigday #lbd challenge.. that will take up more of my free time than I dare to admit 😅 more to come!

Jumping right into intermediate stuff: reproducing my favorite #paperbagskirt... Without taking the original apart!

What I learned:
👀 The importance of really looking at a piece of clothing (how is it made? What type of stitching? How does it behave?)
🖍️ Drawing a pattern from scratch by measuring, measuring, measuring and a lot of the point above 👆
👗 Choosing the right fabric. Not only because 'it looks great' but because it does something for the design (in this case: give body for the paper bag effect)
🪡 Sewing things right including the liner, decorative stitches, adding a blind zipper, ironing Every. Single. Step. Etcetera (not on pics. I was too busy getting frustrated 😅😇)
❌ Making mistakes is inevitable.

But! I made a thing. AND IT HAS POCKETS!!

A wise woman told me your first sewing project (in my case: the first project after a looooong break) should be a pincushion. It's fun, easy, ready to use and while definitely not perfect by any standards.. I use it a lot already.

So yes, this 2024 I made a thing: meet Ouch! Isn't he cute?
